Daily Pagan News: (Trigger Warning: Discussing cissexism) I'll do what I promised not to do here, and tell you my opinion on this...
I think Z. Budapest is a bigot.
I don’t think we have to ignore that just because she created her Dianic Paganism. I think she needs to be called out on it, and she should be forced to face these accusations and explain why she thinks calling trans* people “transies” or call them selfish for wanting to be a part of rituals designed for the gender that they are on the inside, is okay. I want to know exactly why she hates those who are trans.
I think we have every right to call for her to be banned from PantheaCon. The larger Pagan community is actually, finally trying to move forward towards a deeper acceptance of those who are trans*, and this woman refuses to budge. Refuses to let us budge.
And I don’t think we should have to pay for tickets to a convention where a bigot will be allowed to run a bigoted ritual. I think we have every right to say we won’t pay if she’ll be there.
What she does with her private coven at private rituals, is up to her. But when you pay to go to a convention where you don’t expect to be triggered, and you expect to be accepted because the theme was unity in diversity, you shouldn’t be faced with the same kind of closed minded, cissexist rhetoric you hear from the Christians, and from your family and friends and from society at large, every day of your life.
Z. Budapest is a bad person, I don’t like her, and she’s a bigot. And I want someone to found a trans* friendly form of Dianic Paganism because women who aren’t bigots shouldn’t be forced to associate with a bigot.
People keep saying there are things to be learned from both sides of the argument, but I really don’t see what I can learn from Z. I’m already a woman, I already know my mysteries, and I don’t need to be a bigot to find a safe place to be a woman. Oh, and I can recognize that trans women are women. Full stop.
What are your thoughts on Z. Budapest?
